Designing and building this project was a blessing. Pastors Pete and Deb Veysie were inspirational and a driving force behind it. We redesigned a courtyard and the related structures between the church and other beautiful spaces. The church is now named Hope Ridge Church in Rivonia.
The central feature was a baptism pool, with a rim-flow edge on one side, gently allowing water to spill over. When a few people got into the pool, it displaced a lot of water, and we spent some time carefully engineering the pump and water flow. The centre of the design was near a small tree, with circles in the floor and structures radiating outwards. One of these circles was a mosaic band that extended through the pool
Lizette Van Huysteen, who I mentioned on my About page, and her team were the masters behind the concrete and cement finishes. I remember her using different acids to stain the floors. Everything was hand crafted even the edge tiles to the pool.
God was very present in this project, and I was very fortunate to be baptised in this pool.
