If I had to choose a favourite, it would be this project. My clients were very involved, along with some brilliantly creative people and a great building contractor; it was a wonderful experience. They are still close friends to this day.
The site was a real challenge, the height difference from the lowest foundation to the highest point on the roof was twelve metres. I have included a section drawing and site plan with the pictures. I worked around huge rocks and large trees, weaving the building down the slope into a ravine with a beautiful stream below.
The lodge was almost destroyed by fire after a lightning strike, which was a horrible day. We rebuilt it, and it gave us the opportunity to modify things we didn’t like.
There is no other building vaguely similar to this one.
